With the increase in pressure injury-related citations & litigations in Wisconsin, we are partnering with 

Jeri Lundgren, RN, BSN, PHN, CWS, CWCN, CPT,  President,  Senior Providers Resource to provide a six-part educational series that will help your team with the goal to provide clinicians with the knowledge, skills, and resources to build a sustainable skin management program in your organization. 

 

The first session will be June 23rd, 2022 from Noon - 1:30 pm via zoom. 

 

The cost for the six-part series is $295 for members /$395 for non-members or $59/$79 per session.  Save by enrolling in the six-part series. We are able to set up a three-part payment plan. Please contact Melissa@WI-DON-Council.org directly to set this up.  

 

June 23rd Kick-off Session:
Utilizing the QAPI process to implement a Pressure Injury Program. 

The goal is to help the facility organize and implement a pressure injury program and reduce regulatory and litigation risk.

This session will discuss:

  • The role of the Wound Coordinator
  • Agenda and staff involvement with Wound team Meetings
  • Communication systems
  • Pre-admission process
  • Admission process
  • On-going day to day prevention program
  • Process when a wound is identified and ongoing wound management
  • Monitoring/Auditing programs
  • Supplies – product formularies
  • Educational programs on orientation and yearly

 

This session is geared to the Director of Nursing,  Wound Care Nurse, Administrators and Nurse Managers. 

 

Session 2: 

Prevention of Pressure Injuries: Risk Assessment, Interventions and Care Planning.  Date July 7th

The goal of this session is to train all the nurses on how to do a comprehensive skin integrity risk assessment and develop the appropriate interventions and plan of care based on the risk assessment. This session will provide a case study to develop a plan of care.

Session 3: 

Assessment, Staging and Documentation of a Pressure Injury. Date July 21st.

The goal of this session is to educate the nurse on what is a pressure injury and how to do a comprehensive assessment of a pressure injury including staging. Proper assessment is the foundation in determining wound progress and treatment.

Session 4: 

Topical Management of Pressure Injuries. Date August 4th

The goal of this session is to train the nurse how to treat pressure injuries topically based on the characteristics the wound is presenting with.

Session 5: 
Assessment and Treatment of Lower Extremity Ulcers.   Date August 25th 

The goal of this session is to teach the nurses how to differentiate arterial, venous, peripheral neuropathy and diabetic ulcers and how to properly manage them.

Session 6:

Nursing Assistants on the Prevention of Pressure Injuries     Date Sept. 7th

The last module will I would recommend is to provide training for the Nursing Assistants on the Prevention of Pressure Injuries. The nursing assistants implement all the preventive interventions, and their involvement is imperative for a successful program.

Continuing Education 

This program has been approved for Continuing Education for xx total participant hours by NAB/NCERS—Approval #20230622-7-A85911-DL

This course will qualify for up to 7 continuing educational hours for most wound certifications, including WCC and WTA, if you complete each session.  

 

The Wisconsin Director of Nursing Council – Education Forum, Inc. is a provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider #CEP17120, for 7 Contact Hours. A Certificate of Completion is signed after each session for the attendees who have completed each session of the course. The licensee must retain the certificate for four years after the course ends.
