Tuesday, Sept. 15 - Managing Wounds And Skin Integrity During Isolation

September 15, 2020  14:00 - 15:45
Fee: $45.00
Seats Remaining:200

During the COVID -19 outbreak many facilities struggled with residents getting transferred to the isolation unit to nurses not familiar with their wound or their wound nurse was quarantined due to COVID -19. Many of the residents on isolation with COVID became bedbound, high acuity and immunosuppressed making them at high risk for skin breakdown and poor healing. Facilities also lost access to on-site wound practitioners or wound clinics. This session will discuss challenges in preventing skin breakdown and managing wounds when a resident is on isolation.

  • Discuss how the dedicated wound nurse can involve all staff with management of wounds
  • Describe how to ensure the proper interventions are in place when a resident becomes acutely ill and needs isolation to prevent skin breakdown and promote healing when possible
  • Identify how technology can provide access to wound care practitioners
